How diagnosis works

Three steps, in this order, every time

Diagnosis-first is the whole method: measure, write it down, then price it. It is also why we publish a fixed gas-filling price and quote everything else afterwards.

  1. We test before we quote

The free 30-point A/C and electrical checkup runs first — about 15 minutes, with a written report of what was measured.

  2. You get the estimate in writing

The report says what was found and what it costs. Gas filling is a fixed published price; anything beyond it is quoted from the diagnosis.

  3. No work starts until you approve

Nothing is opened up or replaced before you say yes to the estimate. If the diagnosis changes the scope, you hear about it first.

What we actually check

The parts behind the usual complaints

Choose a part to see what gets tested and why. Cooling faults in particular have several possible causes, which is why nothing is replaced before it is measured.

Choose a vehicle part

A/C condenser

Sits at the front, behind the grille. Blocked fins or a leak here shows up as weak cooling in traffic and normal cooling on the move.

Read about a/c condenser

A/C compressor

Driven off the belt. Clutch noise, cutting in and out, or no engagement at all are compressor-side symptoms — tested before it is condemned.

Read about a/c compressor

Battery & charging

Battery, alternator and starter are load-tested together. An overnight drain is a wiring question, not automatically a new battery.

Cooling system

Engine cooling and cabin cooling are separate circuits that fail in similar-looking ways. Checking both is part of the 30-point list.

Brakes & suspension

Inspected on every general service. Noise, pull or a long pedal are measured against pad and disc wear before anything is quoted.

Why diagnosis-first

Replacing the wrong part is the expensive way to fix a car

Most “A/C not cooling” jobs have more than one plausible cause. Testing first costs you fifteen minutes; skipping it costs a part that was never the problem.

  • The fault is measured, not guessed

Gauges, scanner and a load test come before a parts recommendation. That is what the written report records.

  • G.M. Manigandan, M.D and lead technician

He has worked on cars with his own hands since 2018 and opened this workshop in 2019, and he still works on them — the diagnosis-before-replacement rule is his, he trains every technician here in it, and he teaches the 27-day A/C course himself. The person diagnosing your car is the person answering the phone.

  • Multibrand, independent

Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Toyota, Mahindra, Honda, Kia and more, serviced in one workshop in Ambattur.

Leadership & Workshop Verification

“Every diagnosis is backed by data and explained to you in plain Tamil or English before a single screw is turned.”

How the work actually goes

Six things that happen on every job

Not a promise about outcomes — a description of the process you can hold us to when you arrive.

A technician in workshop overalls holds an air-conditioning manifold gauge set and talks a customer through the readings beside a car with its bonnet open.

We show you the reading, not just the verdict

The gauge set goes on before any recommendation is made. You see what the pressures actually are, and what they mean for the fault you came in with.

The checkup comes back as a written report

Thirty points — seventeen on the A/C, thirteen electrical — go on a sheet you keep. Anything outside that list is quoted separately before it is touched.

Electrical faults are measured, not swapped at

Battery, alternator and starter are load-tested together and the scan tool is read before a part is named. An overnight drain is a wiring question first.

One workshop, start to finish

Recovery machine, lift and bench are in the same bay, so an A/C job that turns out to be electrical does not become somebody else’s appointment.

The test is whether it is cold when you drive it

Vent temperature is checked at idle and on a road test, because a system that cools in the bay and not in traffic has not been fixed.

Covers go on before anyone gets in

Seat and floor protection is standard on every job that needs cabin access — dashboard work should not cost you an interior.

Questions we get asked

Before you book

Is the checkup really free, or is there a diagnosis charge?

The A/C, electrical and general checkup is free, with nothing to pay and no obligation to have the work done. We inspect first, explain what we found, and share the estimate before any paid work starts. It takes about 15 minutes on a booked slot and you leave with a written report. Call +91 8428000085 to book a slot.

What is the A/C Gas + Airflow Refresh?

Gas filling with a leak check, plus the cabin filter and vent airflow service, from ₹1,999. It is a starting price rather than a fixed one: a car with front and rear A/C, or a cabin filter we have to order for the model, costs more. The counter confirms the total before the work starts.

How much does car AC gas filling cost in Chennai?

AC Gas Filling — ₹1,500 (single module) · ₹2,200 (double module). The published price includes a leak check. Call +91 8428000085 to discuss your vehicle and availability.

Why is my car AC not cooling properly?

Poor car AC cooling can result from low refrigerant, a gas leak, a cabin-filter restriction, compressor, condenser, cooling-coil or electrical faults. GM Car A/C Service diagnoses the fault before recommending repair work. Learn more about AC cooling problems →

How are repair estimates confirmed?

For compressor, cooling-coil, electrical and general-service repairs, the recommended work and estimate are confirmed after diagnosis because vehicle condition and parts requirements vary.

How long will my car A/C repair take?

Repair timing depends on the diagnosed fault, vehicle and parts required. GM confirms the expected timeline after diagnosis before approved work begins. Book an appointment or call +91 8428000085 to discuss your car.

Is pickup and drop available in Chennai?

Free pick-up and drop anywhere in Chennai, on confirmed bookings, subject to slot availability across Chennai. Call +91 8428000085 or WhatsApp GM Car A/C Service to confirm availability and timing for your location and service need.
